FRANCES TIAFOE VS SEBASTIAN KORDA PREDICTION
Frances Tiafoe has had to scrap his way into the semi-finals this week in Washington and is showing signs of finding some form. The 26-year-old is looking better with every match after returning from an injury sustained at Queen’s. It has not been easy for him this week but he will be pleased with the way he has managed to get wins under his belt. After going to three sets against Daniel Galan and then Aleksandar Kovacevic, his straight-sets win over Andrey Rublev will give him plenty of confidence ahead of this semi.
He now meets Sebastian Korda and the 24-year-old compatriot has now overtaken Tiafoe in the rankings as he reached a career-high 20 in June. Korda is playing his first tennis since Queen’s where he reached the semi-final and he has not missed a beat this week despite no action in a month. He has picked up straight-set wins over Cristian Garin and Jordan Thompson, while he got a walkover win in a tight round of 16 encounter with Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Korda will take confidence from having won the last two meetings with Tiafoe despite Tiafoe leading the head-to-head overall 3-2. There really is little to pick between the two players however and our marginal preference goes to Korda for sharpness and momentum right now. He just had the edge in form and the slight edge goes to him.
