FRANCES TIAFOE VS BRANDON NAKASHIMA PREDICTION
Frances Tiafoe is coming off an outstanding spell on the North American leg of the ATP Tour where he reached the final of the Cincinnati Open and then the semis in the US Open. He has some real momentum behind him and it will be interesting to see if he can maintain those levels now the tour has moved to Asia and whether his motivation as high.
He did well in the Laver Cup winning one of his singles matches and losing the other, and now he gets underway in Tokyo facing a fellow American in the first round.
Brandon Nakashima had reasonable success in the North American leg and then came to Asia last week participating in the Hangzhou Open in China where he reached the semis. He has picked up some notable wins against the likes of Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune, and he will not be phased by measuring himself against Tiafoe.
The head-to-head record does not favour him however. Tiafoe has dominated winning all four previous meetings although the last three of those came in 2022. Nakashima has unquestionably improved since then. However, Tiafoe is playing the better tennis right now and assuming his motivation is there, he is favoured to get the victory in this one.
