FRANCES TIAFOE VS ALEXEI POPYRIN PREDICTION
Frances Tiafoe is coming off arguably one of the most entertaining matches at the 2024 US Open as he fought back against compatriot Ben Shelton to somehow win a five-set thriller in the third round.
Tiafoe showed incredible determination to fight back in that match and his endurance and physicality really impressed. He will need to recover quickly but given his previous match saw his opponent retire and only go just over two sets, he should be fresh to go here.
He meets Alexei Popyrin who is in the form of his life. This round of 16 appearance is already the best he has done in any of the Grand Slam events, but his win in the Canadian Open really highlighted just how well he is playing right now.
The win over Djokovic was no fluke and it was fully deserved. The set he dropped was the first he has lost in this year’s tournament so far. He is playing well and comes into this match determined to kick on further.
The pair have never met before so there is little to go on there and the bookies are calling this even. Our preference is for Popyrin. The Australian has been in some form for a fair while now and he really does have momentum on his side. Tiafoe will have the home support but our preference is Popyrin to progress. If you are not feeling as confident on the selection, over 3.5 may be the play as it is hard to see either player dominating for the entire match.
