THE PREDICTION

In-form Adrian Mannarino brought a career-high ATP world ranking of 22nd into the United Cup after an incredible late season last year saw him pick up three of his now five ATP titles. The 35-year-old impressively beat Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets on Wednesday to seal the teal 2-0 for France in a play-off with Italy for the quarter-finals and he came very close to finally beating Alexander Zverev for the first time in nine attempts on Monday, taking the first set before defeat in a 2-1 result for France. Mannarino is the weak link of this French side but he will back himself to make a go at this clash with world number 11 Casper Ruud, whom he beat in their only previous encounter way back in 2019.

25-year-old Ruud has practically single-handedly dragged Norway through to the quarter-finals with two straight-set victories over Borna Coric and Tallon Griekspoor, combining well with Ulrikke Eikeri to edge a doubles decider against Croatia on Monday, and he will be called upon once again here to more than likely force a decider. Back Ruud to win at least a set in this current vein but underestimate Mannarino, who is maximising his abilities right now, at your peril.

TIP: CASPER RUUD TO WIN A SET
