THE PREDICTION

World number six Ons Jabeur received a bye to the round of 16 here in Abu Dhabi as the second seed this week but she will play on Tuesday in a hugely exciting doubles partnership with Naomi Osaka that should draw crowds. The Tunisian is a hero in these parts, if not the world over, as a record-breaking African and Arab tennis player with the charisma to match but she was well-beaten by 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the second round of the Australian Open last month to bring some questionable form into the Middle East swing. Former world number 10 Emma Raducanu also lost in the second round in Melbourne but her efforts were impressive nonetheless in only her second tournament back since three surgeries. The 21-year-old’s game is ruthless at its best and she proved herself a threat to the top 40 this year, if she can maintain fitness, with a straight-sets victory over Marie Bouzkova on Monday.

A first meeting between these two blockbuster names should be thoroughly entertaining but it is very difficult to back either with much confidence given that Raducanu has failed to win back-to-back matches since last March and Jabeur since she won the Ningbo Open in late September. Back Raducanu to win at least a set with the momentum in her legs to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: EMMA RADUCANU TO WIN A SET
