THE PREDICTION

Former world number three Dominic Thiem came back from a set down to Marc-Andrea Huesler on Friday after the match was delayed overnight due to rain with the Swiss one up. As impressive as the fight back was for the current world number 101 it is hardly the right preparation to face world number 10 Taylor Fritz here just a few hours later and it is worth holding off on this match until the Austrian is seen taking to court. 25-year-old Fritz stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Monte-Carlo Open last week before a semi-final defeat to eventual champion Andrey Rublev but he survived an early exit in Munich with a comeback over Maron Fucsovics on Thursday. It is shame that Thiem is likely to be feeling at least a little fatigue in this quarter-final considering all four of their previous matches have been epic battles that have each seen sets go both ways. Thiem has ousted Fritz from three Grand Slams over the last few seasons to lead their head-to-head 3-1 and that could add some motivation for the American. The sensible option is taking Fritz to win outright here but he should, feasibly, be taking this in two.
