THE PREDICTION

Former world number eight Diego Schwartzman has been enduring a woeful past 12 months on tour but he could be about to turn a corner after an excellent comeback from two sets down to beat Bernabe Zapata Miralles on Monday. The 30-year-old was a semi-finalist here as recently as 2020 and late exits to Rafael Nadal (twice) and Novak Djokovic in each of his last three appearances suggests he could go far with a kind draw and some confidence returned in Paris. World number 80 Nuno Borges will be a difficult second match, though, after the Portuguese ousted another tour veteran in John Isner over five tight sets on Sunday. The 26-year-old won both tiebreaks in the match with Isner, including the fifth 11-9, very impressively indeed and his extra day of rest could come into play if this match sees four or five sets. Leave this one well away from an accumulator whilst we gauge Schwartzman’s progress but otherwise back Borges to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
