THE PREDICTION

This should be a fascinating quarter-final at the Barcelona Open with each of the last eight likely to play twice on Friday following poor weather. Both world number nine Felix Auger-Aliassime and number 15 Diego Schwartzman did it the right way with straight-set victories early on Friday, Auger-Aliassime beating Frances Tiafoe and Schwartzman taking out Lorenzo Musetti for a strong pair of results. They share an interesting head-to-head record finely poised at 1-1 with Schwartzman winning their first meeting on a hardcourt back in 2020 and Auger-Aliassime taking their meeting on clay at last season’s Italian Open – odd as you would assume the results were the opposite on their respective best surfaces. This is a tough call but it is hard to see Schwartzman losing this in straight sets and as the player in better form on this surface at this moment in time taking the Argentine to win at least a set looks the sensible call, leaving the winner up to chance.
