World number 53 Martina Trevisan is undoubtedly a top 30, perhaps even top 20, talent on her favoured clay but the Italian often struggles to compete away from the surface. There have been some encouraging moments on hardcourts this season, not least her stunning result for Italy over Maria Sakkari at the United Cup in January, but this is no gimme against a qualifier with sudden momentum behind her. 30-year-old Demi Schuurs is world number 13 in doubles but the Dutchwoman is currently without a singles ranking at all, making her spotless run through qualifying this weekend all the more special. Schuurs has seemingly never played a tour-level singles match, wit her last attempt at qualifying coming at the Charleston Open last April, to make this a momentous day and stranger things have happened than a huge upset here. Backing Trevisan to win outright is the sensible call but considering the occasion it could be worth a one-off on Schuurs to earn at least a set here.
