Max Purcell has shown to be very well suited to Atlanta and despite slipping up in the second set of his last match, found another gear in the third set, the sort of gear that could see him go very far in this competition if he can find it more consistently, starting in this encounter and then potentially going forwards.
David Goffin’s experience always makes him a threat, but being able to compete with Purcell at the level shown in that third set over O’Connell would likely be a bridge too far for him and in a three-set contest, backing the Australian has to be favoured.
