World number one Daniil Medvedev will play his first match on tour since mid-June after the Russian/Belarussian ban at Wimbledon and he can occasionally take some time getting going after a break. However, the 26-year-old has probably been the best player on tour from this stage of the season onwards for the last two years, culminating in his first Grand Slam title won at the US Open last September, and he has been awarded a winnable opener against Rinky Hijikata. 21-year-old Hijikata will be buzzing, though, after claiming the first tour-level win of his career in a straight-sets result over Rodrigo Pacheco on Monday. The Aussie will know his best chance is to start as hard and fast as possible but whilst Medvedev could well be caught out in these conditions on clay or grass the Russian is back where he belongs on a North American hardcourt.
