THE PREDICTION

World number five Daniil Medvedev brings a six-match winning streak into the Monte-Carlo Open after claiming his fifth Masters title at the Miami Open. The former number one has won more matches than anyone else this season after claiming three titles in three weeks in February, adding the Rotterdam Open, Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships to his career total of 19 titles so far. One of his 29 wins so far in 2023 came in a first meeting with Lorenzo Sonego at Adelaide 1 back in January, although the match was close before Sonego was forced to retire a set down. The 27-year-old has recently improved on some questionable form to move back up to world number 45 and a comeback victory over Ugo Humbert on Tuesday was in keeping with his recent upturn. Medvedev is not a fan of clay but he comes into Monte-Carlo in some of the form of his career and keen to try something new on the surface. Whilst straight sets should do it, the sensible move is backing Medvedev to win outright here as we try to gauge his chances in Monte-Carlo.
