THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Christopher Eubanks changed the course of his career with a shock run to the quarter-finals of the Miami Open last season, stunning Borna Coric in the first round before losing out to eventual champion Daniil Medvedev. The popular American went on to enjoy a remarkable summer on tour, claiming his maiden ATP title at the Mallorca Championships before a thrilling run to the last eight at Wimbledon, where he once again lost to Medvedev – this time in thrilling five sets. It has been slim pickings for Eubanks since, though, to make this opening match back in Miami a really significant test.

World number 43 Dan Evans came back from a set down to finally beat Lorenzo Sonego, at the third time of asking, and he has all the racket skills required to break down Eubanks’ powerful game. The Brit will aim to keep his opponent low with his excellent sliced backhand but if the American can find rhythm on his serve this first meeting between two vastly different play-styles could go down to the wire. Back Evans to earn at least a set, with last summer’s victory at the notoriously humid Washington Open suggesting he can cope in Miami’s sticky conditions on Saturday.

TIP: DAN EVANS TO WIN A SET
