THE PREDICTION

Marrakech Open defending champion Roberto Carballes Baena was in control of his opener over qualifier Matteo Gigante on Tuesday before the Italian was forced to pull out in the second set. 31-year-old Carballes Baena enjoyed an excellent run to his second ATP title this time last season, twice coming back from a set down to oust Dan Evans in the semi-finals before Alexandre Muller in the final.

World number 42 Evans is far from his best on clay but he has developed more of a sensibility for the surface in recent seasons, famously stunning Novak Djokovic at the Monte-Carlo Open in 2021. The Brit looked in decent shape at the Miami Open last time out, beating Lorenzo Sonego at the fourth attempt before a tight three-set exit to Christopher Eubanks, but two defeats to RCB last season, both here and in Rome, suggest the Spaniard is the favourite in his favoured conditions. Back Carballes Baena to edge through, probably in three.

TIP: ROBERTO CARBALLES BAENA TO WIN
