THE PREDICTION

World number three Coco Gauff continues to fight her wayward serve but she dug deep to come back from a set down against a briefly resurgent Paula Badosa on Monday, out-breaking the Spaniard 7-5. The 20-year-old was struggling with several of her weapons this time last season, culminating in a first round exit to Sofia Kenin at Wimbledon that sent her back to the drawing board, but she returned in insatiable form to fulfil her destiny with a maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open at 19 years old.

World number seven Qinwen Zheng came close to realising a similar dream when she finished runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka, whom had beaten Gauff in the semi-finals, at the Australian Open in January. The 21-year-old enacted revenge on her former coach, Wim Fissette, by beating his new charge Naomi Osaka comfortably on Monday and that could be the result that sparks her back into life as she has claimed three wins on the spin for the first time since Melbourne. Both Gauff and Zheng can be excellent on clay at their respective best but this first meeting between the two should be about whomever handles themselves best sub-optimally and that has tended to see Gauff find a way through. Back the American to reach the semi-finals.

TIP: COCO GAUFF TO WIN
