THE PREDICTION

World number 20 Ekaterina Alexandrova could be one to watch this week in Guadalajara with the majority of the top 10 missing from the draw. The 28-year-old overcame an impressive Magdalena Frech in two tight tiebreaks on Wednesday to get her campaign underway solidly and, barring a defeat to Sara Sorribes Tormo in the Cleveland final last month, is one of the more dependable performers against players ranked below her. 25-year-old Caroline Dolehide will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 95th after overcoming fellow Americans Peyton Steans and Sachia Vickery in three sets apiece but this will be a considerable step-up against the deceptively powerful Russian. Dolehide should feed off of a likely strong support from neutral fans here but back Alexandrova to reach the quarter-finals in a match that could well see three sets.
