CARLOS ALCARAZ VS LI TU PREDICTION

The Spanish star returned to action in Cincinnati last week after skipping the Canadian Open to rest and recharge. He did not last long however as he was beaten by Gael Monfils in his first match as he struggled to come to terms with the conditions and speed on the hard courts.

That was arguably the shock of the week in Cincinnati and while Alcaraz will not have been happy with the loss, he should be further rested coming into this as there have been concerns over his physical condition.

That said, he limited his practise time on Sunday amid concerns over an ankle injury and there have to be question marks over him coming into this event.

This is the fourth time the 21-year-old has played the US Open and he has an impressive record. He reached the quarter-finals in 2021, he won it in 2022, and then was eliminated in the semis last year. He will fully expect to go deep once again in New York this time around.

He should be able to play and win this first-round match with Li Tu without expending too much energy. His 28-year-old Australian opponent is on the ATP Challenger Tour and somehow made his way through qualifying to get to this stage. It is hard to see him troubling Alcaraz unless the Spaniard’s injury concerns are greater than they seem. Expect Alcaraz to progress in straight sets.

CARLOS ALCARAZ VS LI TU TIP: CARLOS ALCARAZ TO WIN 3-0
