THE PREDICTION

This should be another thrilling edition of the ATP’s next great rivalry as world number two Carlos Alcaraz and number seven Jannik Sinner face off for the seventh time with their head-to-head finely poised at 3-3. 20-year-old Alcaraz overcame an initially spirited Casper Ruud in straight sets on Monday before Sinner took to court to play out an altogether more challenging three-setter with Grigor Dimitrov but both youngsters should be up for this in a huge way on Tuesday with little in the way of fatigue. This is the third meeting between the two this season, with Alcaraz beating Sinner in straight sets in the semi-finals of Indian Wells en-route to lifting the title there and Sinner avenging his defeat two weeks late at the same stage of the Miami Open in three. It is surprising to find, given Alcaraz’ prowess on clay and his Wimbledon title in July, that Sinner has won both of their matches away from hardcourts, on grass in a thriller at SW19 last summer and then on clay in the Umag final, but that only serves to boost Alcaraz’ chances in these conditions as he leads 3-1 on hardcourts.

Four of their six encounters have seen sets go both ways but all six clashes have seen at least one tiebreak to offer some great combinations. Back Alcaraz to earn at least a set and for at least one tiebreak in the match to leave the victor up to chance inside an accumulator or consider Alcaraz to win in three sets with a tiebreak in the match in a one off.
