CARLOS ALCARAZ VS GAEL MONFILS PREDICTION
Carlos Alcaraz returns to action on Wednesday as he faces Gael Monfils who beat him just a few weeks ago at the Cincinnati Open. Alcaraz was one set up in that match before a weather break interrupted play and when the players returned, Alcaraz was clearly struggling with conditions. Monfils adapted better and won the remaining two sets to stun Alcaraz and the Spaniard was in the middle of a slump in form by his high standards.
Prior to that, Alcaraz had beaten Monfils in their other two previous meetings and we are not reading too much into that loss in Cincinnati. Alcaraz has benefited from some rest of late and is getting close to his best in Asia right now.
The 21-year-old Spaniard has faced two Chinese players so far and managed to overcome the pair in straight sets. This very much represents a different challenge for him.
Monfils showed Ugo Humbert that he can still mix it and be considered among the best French players even at the age of 38 as he beat his compatriot in three sets. That may be as far as he goes here and whether he can put the same effort in here remains to be seen.
There is little chance that he meets the version of Alcaraz that he beat in Cincinnati. The Spaniard is in excellent form and we fully expect him to get the win, and likely in straight sets too.
