THE PREDICTION

World number 67 Camila Giorgi reached the semi-finals of the Eastbourne International for the third-successive season after an impressive straight-sets victory over Ons Jabeur on Wednesday was backed-up in a fierce tiebreak over Jelena Ostapenko before her opponent retired injured. The 31-year-old won her first of four WTA titles on grass at ‘s-Hertogenbosch back in 2015 but she has yet to reach the final here in Eastbourne, with this her best chance yet at doing so. World number 11 Daria Kasatkina also came through the quarter-finals via a retirement as Caroline Garcia looked to pull out for caution’s sake ahead of Wimbledon. The Russian came back from a set down to beat former champion Karolina Pliskova on Wednesday and she leads Giorgi 2-0 in their head-to-head record to suggest she is the slightest of favourites. Both players have an almost metronomic style at their best but Giorgi’s has a little more bite on grass, particularly here on a court that she loves. Back the Italian to earn at least a set here to leave the victor up to chance.
