THE PREDICTION

World number 35 Botic van de Zandschulp is the top seed in Pune after Marin Cilic was forced to with draw on Thursday. The 27-year-old is yet to drop a set after two routine enough wins over Flavio Cobolli and Maximilian Marterer this week but he will face a steeper challenge here. World number 60 Benjamin Bonzi set a career-high ATP world ranking of 44th last season and he looks well capable of breaking the top 40 if he continues in this form, with three straight-sets victories to his name so far. A victory over third seed Emil Ruusuvuori in the round of 16 was particularly eye-catching but Van de Zandschulp’s uber-consistency will prove a much more difficult wall to break down. Van de Zandschulp beat Bonzi via two tiebreaks in the quarter-finals of the Winston-Salem Open last August and similar fare seems on here. Back the Dutchman to earn at least a set and then consider adding at least a tiebreak, with one in each of Bonzi’s last two matches here.
