BARBORA KREJCIKOVA VS JASMINE PAOLINI PREDICTION

Things were not looking good for Barbora Krejcikova after the first set of her semi-final with former champion Elena Rybakina, as she was thoroughly outplayed by her opponent and looked like she would struggle to hold on. However, something clicked for the Czech star early in the second set, and she managed to wrestle control of the match and ultimately prevail v in three sets.

Jasmine Paolini showed all the qualities that have led to her best year on tour in Thursday’s record-breaking semi-final win over Donna Vekic. Like Krejcikova, the Italian lost the first set but fought back superbly and she clinched a deciding set tie-break 10-8 to reach a second successive Grand Slam final. The contest, coming in at two hours and 49 minutes, was the longest ever women’s semi-final at Wimbledon.

There are a lot of interesting parallels between these two players. Born just 17 days apart, the 28-year-old pair were late bloomers in terms of their tennis career as neither were regular Grand Slam participants until around four years ago. Krejcikova is a former French Open champion having gone all the way at Roland-Garros in 2021, while Paolini reached the final in Paris just last month.

Krejcikova has only dropped one set en route to the final and will no doubt be full of confidence, but this just seems to be Paolini’s year. The Italian will have learned from her heavy French Open final defeat to Iga Swiatek last month, and has shown incredible mental resolve throughout the last two weeks at the All England Club. The bookies make Krejcikova the favourite here, and understandably so, but we’re tipping Paolini to get over the line in a tight contest.

BARBORA KREJCIKOVA VS JASMINE PAOLINI TIP: JASMINE PAOLINI TO WIN 2-1
