THE PREDICTION

World number 38 Yoshihito Nishioka set a career-high ATP world ranking of 37th just last week as he continues to enjoy the form of his career. The Japanese number one had been somewhat in the wilderness for more than 12 months before bursting into form at the Citi Open on a run to the semi-finals and more recently he claimed the second ATP title of his career at the Korea Open. World number 58 Aslan Karatsev started this season at peak powers, winning the third title of his late-blooming career at the Sydney Tennis Classic, but the Russian has since struggled to find any sort of rhythm. 29-year-old Karatsev brings a torrid 17/28 record into the Paris Masters but Nishioka has struggled to beat the better players since his title in Seoul, so backing the Japanese to earn at least a set from this first encounter looks the sensible option.
