THE PREDICTION

World number 61 Arthur Rinderknech is becoming a fixture in the latter stages of ATP 250 tournaments, with his straight-sets victory over world number 12 Denis Shapovalov the best win of his career in terms of ranking. The Frenchman has reached the quarter-finals at least in each of his last four ATP 250s, finishing runner-up to Thanasi Kokkinakis in Adelaide last month. He fares a decent chance of another here against world number 22 Nikoloz Basilashvili, who had to come back from a set down to oust Marton Fucsovics on Thursday. The Georgian is the defending champion here after beating Roberto Bautista Agut, and a returning Roger Federer, last season out of the blue and he is still one of the most unpredictable men on tour. Taking Basilashvili to win at least a set is a fair risk but he remains the likelier player to reach the final on the strength of his sometimes wild sometimes wonderful forehand.
