World number 36 Shuai Zhang overcame the 30th seed Jil Teichmann in straight sets on Monday, continuing her excellent level on hardcourts this season. The 33-year-old claimed the third WTA title of her career at the Lyon Open back in February and she reached the quarter-finals of the Canada Masers earlier this month with stunning victories over Naomi Osaka, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Anett Kontaveit. That should be more than enough level to oust world number 115 Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova here, despite the Slovak’s comfortable opener over Nadia Podoroska. 27-year-old Schmiedlova has managed to take back-to-back wins just twice this season and backing Shuai Zhang to win in straight sets looks a reasonable risk as a one-off. Otherwise back the Chinese to win outright inside an accumulator.
