THE PREDICTION
World number five Andrey Rublev received a bye to the round of 16 at the Hong Kong Open as the top seed this week and he will be desperate to hit the ground running after a disappointing end to 2023. The 26-year-old lost all three of his ATP Finals matches in straight sets to further display the gulf in ability between his excellent game and the very elite players on tour but he reached the semi-finals of the Paris Masters before that, taking a set from eventual champion Novak Djokovic before losing their closest battle yet. World number 108 Liam Broady set a career-high of 93rd last September after enjoying a strong season on the Challenger circuit. The 29-year-old conceded just four games to Pedro Cachin on Tuesday to maintain a spotless run from qualifying but Rublev should have too much firepower to falter here. Three sets are a reasonable possibility in the Russian’s first match of the new season but it would be a surprise to see him struggle too much. Take Rublev to win in straight sets.
TIP: ANDREY RUBLEV TO WIN 2-0
