ANDREY RUBLEV VS ALEXEI POPYRIN PREDICTION

It is never easy to know which version of Andrey Rublev will turn up on court but this week, it certainly seems like the best version of the 26-year-old is in Montreal. Rublev eased past Italian Matteo Arnaldi in the semi-finals on Sunday night and he has been fortunate with the schedule that he has not been as disrupted as the other half of the draw. After beating world number one Jannik Sinner, there is no doubting Rublev’s belief this week.

He faces Australian Alexei Popyrin who is enjoying a fantastic week in Montreal and his confidence will be sky high also. The 25-year-old had to play both his quarter and semi-final matches on Sunday after the washout on Friday and appeared to thrive from that. He fought back from a set down to beat Hubert Hurkacz and then beat in-form Sebastian Korda in straight sets to seal his place in the final.

He already has a win over Rublev this year and that came on clay in Monte-Carlo while Rublev beat him on a hard court in Vienna in 2023. This is undoubtedly the biggest game of his career so far and it will be interesting to see how he handles the spotlight. Rublev is far more accustomed to the big stage and he gets our vote to seal the title in Montreal.
