ANASTASIA POTAPOVA VS XINYU WANG PREDICTION
World number 37 Xinyu Wang has exceeded expectations on her weakest surface here at Roland-Garros, surviving a tough lucky loser in Jule Niemeier before overcoming Viktoriya Tomova in three sets. The 22-year-old reached the round of 16 at the US Open last summer in conditions that better-suit her improving game but there have been some signs of an overall return to form after a tough start to 2024.
World number 41 Anastasia Potapova is the reasonable favourite here, though, as a more comfortable clay courter with two solid wins so far over Kamilla Rakhimova and Viktorija Golubic. The 23-year-old won her maiden WTA title at the Istanbul Cup on clay in 2022 and she reached the third round here last season before a tight exit to former finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Potapova won their first encounter at the Prague Open two years ago and she can be backed to do so again here.
