ANASTASIA POTAPOVA VS LEYLAH FERNANDEZ PREDICTION
Each of the last two US Open tournaments have seen Anastasia Potapova reach the second-round of the women’s singles, but to do so for a third consecutive year she must overcome an opponent in Leylah Fernandez who has gotten the better of her in each of their previous four encounters, one of which was on the hard court. Twice Fernandez has beaten Potapova already this year, both times on clay in Madrid and Strasbourg respectively. But this represents their most notable showdown since the 2021 French Open, which Fernandez won in straight sets, dropping just three games.
Fernandez’s play-style is clearly well suited to facing Potapova and the psychological aspect of having triumphed so many times over a player has to be taken into account. The confidence of Fernandez will be high heading into this match and a good start would make it very difficult for Potapova both physically and mentally to come back from. With that in mind, back Leylah Fernandez to come through and book a place in the second round.
