THE PREDICTION

This will be a tough match to watch for the home crowd in Cluj-Napoca as Ana Bogdan and Jaqueline Cristian face off to guarantee a Romanian will be in the final. 31-year-old Bogdan has been edging closer to claiming a maiden WTA title in recent seasons and she looked resolute in her pursuit of that this week with an excellent comeback from a set down to oust top seed Arantxa Rus via two tight tiebreaks on Friday. World number 81 Cristian, though, is yet to drop a set this campaign after ousting up-and-coming Clara Tauson and ending Ana Sevastova’s excellent return to the tour in the quarter-finals. Bogdan came back from a set down to beat Cristian in the Parma Challenger last September, en-route to the title there, but this first tour-level meeting between the two should come as close on a ground-levelling hardcourt. The crowd will likely have their part to play in this clash, so back Bogdan to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: ANA BOGDAN TO WIN A SET
