THE PREDICTION

World number 47 Amanda Anisimova proved once again she is a player destined for the world’s top 10 one day soon with a comeback victory over the Charleston Open top seed Aryna Sabalenka on Thursday. The 20-year-old won the second WTA title of her career in Melbourne at the start of the season but her race to the semi-finals of Roland-Garros in 2019 as a teenager remains her standout achievement and she looks at home on the clay. World number 168 Coco Vandeweghe will provide a stern test, though, after ousting in-form Jessica Pegula in three sets on Thursday. The 30-year-old set a career-high WTA world ranking of ninth back in 2018 after reaching the semi-finals of both the Australian Open and US Open the year before when she also won the second of her two WTA titles at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Anisimova can be backed to take this first meeting in straight sets but the sensible move for an accumulator would be to take the youngster outright.
