ALEXEI POPYRIN VS JAKUB MENSIK PREDICTION
Alexei Popyrin has had a mixed time since he won the Canadian Open back in August although he did enjoy a good run to the round of 16 in the US Open which included a win over Novak Djokovic. He was eliminated in the first round in Japan and made it to the second in Shanghai so his form remains a little inconsistent.
He comes into this tournament relatively well-rested after skipping the events last week and he comes here having played his last game in Shanghai almost two weeks ago now. The 25-year-old will be hoping for a good showing in Vienna this week although he has been handed a tough opener.
He meets Jakub Mensik, the talented Czech 19-year-old who is proving more than capable of beating the best players. He too skipped the events last week but that was after a run to the quarter-finals in Shanghai which saw him beat the likes of Andrey Rublev and Grigor Dimitrov before losing to Djokovic.
Mensik has played Popyrin once albeit on clay earlier this year and he eased to a 6-3 6-2 win. This match figures to be totally different on a hard court however.
We marginally favour Mensik in this one but not with any real conviction. Popyrin will be well-rested and is more than capable of winning this match. We fancy this one to go all three sets however.
