ALEX MICHELSEN VS TALLON GRIEKSPOOR PREDICTION
19-year-old Alex Michelsen battled his way through qualifying including a straight sets win over Mackenzie McDonald to reach this main draw. Michelsen has done well in recent weeks but he was knocked out in Montreal in the first round by Kei Nishikori. During that game Michelsen looked to be comfortable with a set and a break up but he contrived to allow Nishikori back in and as the veteran’s confidence improved, he took control.
He now faces Tallon Griekspoor and he will be familiar with the Dutchman having met him in Miami at the ATP 1000 event in March. Griekspoor won that match in three sets with the first twos sets going to a tiebreak. There is every chance this is another close encounter.
Griekspoor suffered a similar fate in Montreal as he was beaten in the first round by Lorenzo Sonego. During that match his frustrations boiled over resulting in a smashed racket and his form of late has been pretty average.
There is little to choose between these two players and the betting shows that. Our marginal preference is for Michelsen to exact revenge on the defeat Griekspoor inflicted on him in Miami. The loss over Nishikori will be the wake-up call he needs to keep his focus the entire match and he can bounce back here. Griekspoor is always dangerous but his form is not good. Given both players have inconsistency in their game, our preferred play is in the set betting.
