THE PREDICTION

World number 10 Alex de Minaur coasted past Soonwoo Kwon on Sunday to get his Miami Open campaign underway and he could be considered a dark horse for a deep run here after only just missing out on the Indian Wells quarter-finals in three sets to Alexander Zverev. The 25-year-old has managed to step up a level many did not think he could find on tour to look capable of maintaining his new top 10 status, with last month’s title defence in Acapulco seeing him oust Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud in symbolic results.

World number 25 Jan-Lennard Struff beat fellow German Daniel Altmaier in comfortable straight sets to look a credible threat to De Minaur in these conditions. The hard-hitting 33-year-old is certainly of top 20 quality in his rare spells of fitness and he came agonisingly close to achieving that milestone in Madrid last April, where he finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz in three tight sets. The pair share an intriguing 2-2 head-to-head record in which Struff has won each of their last two encounters but De Minaur leads 2-1 on hardcourts and he has significantly improved sin recent months. Back the Aussie to find a way through.

TIP: ALEX DE MINAUR TO WIN
