ALEX DE MINAUR VS HUGO GASTON PREDICTION
Alex de Minaur battled to a three-set win in his comeback match against Roberto Carballes Baena on Wednesday as he returned to action following a troublesome hip problem.
The 25-year-old Australian had been suffering with it prior to the US Open and probably should have withdrawn but instead he battled on with it and reached the quarter-finals before losing to Jack Draper. He has however been out of action ever since then as he heals his body.
There remain fitness concerns over him and that will be a question mark for the next few matches and tournaments to see how his body handles the return to play but he will take heart from his win on Wednesday.
Now he meets Hugo Gaston and in normal circumstances he would fully expect to beat the Frenchman. It may not be quite so plain sailing here however. Gaston did well to beat seventh seed Mariano Navone on Wednesday in three sets and is playing some good tennis.
With De Minaur a long way from his best and building up his fitness and sharpness, this could well be much closer than the odds suggest. We can see this going the distance and we favour game betting in this one.
