ALEX DE MINAUR VS DANIEL EVANS PREDICTION
Alex de Minaur’s return to fitness looks to be almost complete as he is looking increasingly comfortable by the match and his body is standing up to the challenges so far. The Australian 25-year-old cantered to an impressive win in straight sets over Otto Virtanen.
That said, he did admit after his win that his hip issue still troubles him at times and it varies by the day. That suggests he may well hit a wall at some point especially if he gets dragged into a five-set match but so far he is holding up well.
He faces Dan Evans who could well experience some physical issues of his own after his exploits this week. Not only did he play the longest match in US Open history, but the longest format of best-of-five will surely take its toll on him too.
Evans has dominated the head-to-head by winning all three although it is fair to say those have not taken place while De Minaur has been at the level of which he is now. De Minaur is big favourite to win this match but Evans has shown enough so far this week to show he is capable of pushing him hard. It is hard to go against De Minaur but our preference is on over 3.5 sets.
