World number five Andrey Rublev avoided a potential banana skin with an assured victory over Botic van de Zandschulp on Thursday and he has lost to the eventual champion in each of his last two tournaments, including as runner-up to Hubert Hurkacz at the Shanghai Masters, to prove his current level. It is surprising to find that De Minaur leads their head-to-head 3-1 given that Rublev is usually so dependable against the players ranked below him but De Minaur is improving all the time as he approaches a top 10 breakthrough.
