THE PREDICTION
This looks a really tough match to call between world number 23 Reilly Opelka and number 57 Adrian Mannarino, with the latter showing some excellent form so far in 2022. 33-year-old Mannarino produced a stunning run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open last month before losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in a high-quality encounter and it took the top seed Alexander Zverev to oust him from the Montpellier Open last week. Much of this match will be settled on 24-year-old Opelka’s serve with the American smashing 28 aces and no double faults against Cedrik-Marcel Stebe in a straight-sets victory on Thursday. The American should be winning this but Mannarino is something of an anomaly this year so far and taking Opelka to win at least a set looks the sensible move. You could add a tiebreak here with both players seeing two each already this week.
