CRISTIAN GARIN
World number 20 Cristian Garin won his native Chile Open title earlier this year on his favoured clay to make it five ATP titles in total so far. The 25-year-old enjoyed some strong form throughout the clay season, most notably making the round of 16 at Roland-Garros and the quarter-finals at the Madrid Open. The Chilean’s best run at a Grand Slam was that round of 16 loss to Daniil Medvedev in Paris and he has yet to make it past the first round at Wimbledon.
BERNABE ZAPATA MIRALLES
After reaching the French Open main draw for the first time this year, Bernabe Zapata Miralles has followed it up by reaching the Wimbledon first round for the first time too. The 24-year-old from Valencia is enjoying an excellent season on clay but this will be a tough assignment for him to adapt his game to the grass at SW19.
THE PREDICTION
Cristian Garin and Bernabe Zapata Miralles are two exciting young talents that meet in the Wimbledon first round and it will be interesting to see which of the two can adapt their game to the grass in this opener. Both have enjoyed their best performances on clay but it is Garin who has the greater experience on grass. Neither have a win at Wimbledon on their resumes in their relatively short careers so far but it is Garin who has to be favoured to get the win and progress to the second round of the first time of his career.
