THE LOWDOWN

ALEX DE MINAUR

22-year-old Alex de Minaur moved back up to his career-best 18th in the ATP world rankings after an excellent Queen’s Club Championships campaign ended in the semi-finals. The Australian speedster will reach a new career-high ranking on Monday after winning his fifth ATP title at the Eastbourne International last Saturday. De Minuar is an engaging player on court well capable of improving on his already dangerous game even further. He also won his first tournament of the year at the Antalya Open and he reached the quarter-finals of the US Open last year for his best showing at a Grand Slam so far.

SEBASTIAN KORDA

Sebastian Korda has enjoyed a breakthrough year having clinched his maiden ATP Tour title. He was successful in the recent Emilia-Romagna Open and having won that without dropping a set in the process, he will be full of confidence as he makes his bow at Wimbledon. The 20-year-old has claimed some major scalps in 2021, most notably overcoming John Isner and Diego Schwartzman, which has seen him rise to a career-high of 50 in the world. He will hold no fear ahead of this debut and he could really catch the eye at SW19.

THE PREDICTION

Alex de Minaur’s excellent work on grass this month is set to reward him a career-high ATP world ranking on Monday and the Aussie is seeded 15th for a late start on Monday. This should be an enthralling first meeting between two players likely to grace the very top of the game for the next decade as 20-year-old Sebastian Korda makes his debut. The American has burst onto the scene this season but has been hyped for years before, with this tough first match an excellent stage to live up to it. 22-year-old De Minaur’s win in Eastbourne could be his downfall here if he does not refocus successfully – as so many players struggle to do. For this reason, take Korda to win at least a set here with this match well capable of seeing four or five.
