World number 23 Emma Raducanu fought well from a set down to Polona Hercog on Tuesday in a match of huge importance for her confidence and that was expressly shown in her straight-sets victory over Ana Bogdan on Thursday. The 18-year-old is drawing the most support so far at the Translyvania Open as a woman of Romanian descent, apart from Simona Halep of course, and that should help settle the nerves that take her at the start of matches still. She faces another young player with a very bright future in sixth seed Marta Kostyuk. The 19-year-old is yet to drop a set in two comfortable wins over Bernarda Pera and Mona Barthel and she will desperately want to win this first meeting with Raducanu as the more experienced young player. The Ukrainian has beaten two top 30 opponents this season but that pales in comparison to US Open champion Raducanu’s achievements. This could be close but at this stage of their careers the Brit should find herself in the semi-finals on Saturday.
