THE PREDICTION

This is a particularly difficult match to call between two players in some seriously good form at the Miami Open, and both of them coming in with little to shout about. Even though world number nine Diego Schwartzman recently won an ATP title at the Buenos Aires Open, the Argentine has looked below his best elsewhere and looked to struggle at the Australian Open after a disappointing debut at last season’s ATP Finals. The 28-year-old certainly seems over that now and beat Adrian Mannarino in comfortable straight sets on Monday to set up a first career meeting with the United States’ latest exciting youngster. 20-year-opld Sebastian Korda had already achieved a career win this week in Miami by beating Fabio Fognini on Sunday and in many ways doubled-down on that by beating world number 27 Aslan Karatsev in just under an hour on Monday. The world number 87 has been lauded for some time but his three matches in Miami this campaign have looked like a player well capable of breaking the top 30 by the end of 2021 and a danger to anyone on court here in his native Florida. In their first meeting, this match will be about aggression and perseverance and looks to be a shout for the best of this round if both players live up to their performances. Take this match to go to three sets and leave a winner well out of this, with Schwartzman especially likely to fight back and force a decider if Korda starts too strongly.
