THE LOWDOWN

28-year-old Viktorija Golubic will break her career-high WTA world ranking of 45th no matter the outcome of this third round match after two incredible wins over in-form Marketa Vondrousova and Maria Sakkari. The Swiss won Silver in the Women’s Doubles alongside Belinda Bencic at the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer and set her new Grand Slam record after a stunning run through to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. World number 151 Anna Kalinskaya has also gone above and beyond this week with a superb victory over Sara Sorribes Tormo on Saturday. The Russian qualified well to reach the main draw for a first time at Indian Wells and in terms of form this season this win eclipses her season’s best victory over then world number 21 Petra Martic at the Miami Open.

THE PREDICTION

Viktorija Golubic was the winner of the only previous tour-level encounter with Anna Kalinskaya, beating the Russian in straight sets earlier this season on her way to the Monterrey Open final. The Swiss’ impressive victory over Maria Sakkari is tough form to argue against and despite Anna Kalinskaya’s brilliant performances so far this looks like the Swiss’ day. Golubic has reached two finals this season with some gritty wins. Seeing as both players’ first two matches have seen three sets each, take her to win in three here.
