• The 23-year-old has played and lost to Dusan Lajovic on two previous occasions, both time on clay courts at the 2018 Barcelona Open and in Buenos Aires last season.

• 30-year-old Susan Lajovic upset the odds and his own fairly poor form by reaching the third round of the Australian Open via an impressive four-set defeat of Alexander Bublik.
• The Serb is seeded 23rd here in Melbourne but is known for his clay-court specialism, though he can beat his best showing at the Australian Open with a win here after losing at this stage to Diego Schwartzman last year.

THE PREDICTION

There is plenty to say for Pedro Martinez’ chances in this match considering the Spaniard stayed calm to beat Ruusuvuori well a round after the Finn took out the 10th seed Gael Monfils. However, it seems Dusan Lajovic has clicked into gear, finally, after a torrid spell to send last season dribbled into his performances at the ATP Cup. Now on a two-match winning run for the first time since September, the Serb looks good to reach the round of 16 in Melbourne for the first time in his career. Martinez has failed to beat Lajovic in two previous meetings but, like in 2018, both players can take a set here in a win for the 23rd seed.
