THE PREDICTION
World number 34 Lorenzo Sonego will have some onlookers at the Australian Open after he reached the final of the Vienna Open last November in a complete shock of a run that included a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Novak Djokovic. The Italian struggled to back up that surprise at the Paris Masters and lost his first match of 2021 last week but he is well worth a watch against Sam Querrey here and has proven he is capable of beating the very best. 33-year-old Querrey has struggled for form for the best part of a year now and lost in the first rounds of both the US Open and the French Open last year after the restart of the tennis season. Neither player comes to this first career meeting particularly hot and it could be worth opting for both of them to take at least one set here and leaving it there. If pushed for a result, it should be Sonego’s day. However, we will only know more about the enigmatic Italian’s chances after the first few games..
