THE PREDICTION
It is initially surprising to find that Feliciano Lopez has won the two previous matches against Rafael Nadal but closer reading reveals they last played in 2015. Now at age 39, Lopez will know realistically he has no chance at all here against his fellow Spaniard, with whom he played doubles to win the Davis Cup for Spain almost a year ago. However, Lopez put in an excellent display to put away Filip Krajinovic in the first round on Monday and announced that he has no plans to retire, aiming to play a full schedule again next season. Nadal, though, comes into this tournament as the runaway favourite for the title with Novak Djokovic taking a break and the world number two should power his way through in customary straight sets here against his close friend.
