- 31-year-old Adrian Mannarino made short work of Norwegian starlet Casper Ruud in the first round of the Paris Masters as one of many Frenchmen in the draw.
- The world number 41 played out an excellent Kremlin Cup campaign two weeks ago, winning four straight matches in straight sets before coming up against eventual champion Andrey Rublev in the final.
- Mannarino has done well to have made it to 31 years old with only one loss to his next opponent Rafael Nadal, with their only previous meeting coming on a hard court at Beijing in 2016.
RAFAEL NADAL
- Rafael Nadal won his only Laver Cup contribution in a straight-sets win over Milos Raonic before pulling out of the final day and this will be his first match for over a month.
- The 33-year-old is on a 48-6 record for 2019 and has won four titles this season - he is tied with Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Daniil Medvedev on that total.
- Nadal has never won the Paris Masters title in six previous attempts and will be eager to make this his first with an eye on the end of year No.1 spot in the ATP rankings.
THE PREDICTION
Rafael Nadal is expected to power through the first few round of the Paris Masters in a bid to earn ATP points and, potentially, his first title at this tournament. The Spaniard is closing in on Novak Djokovic at the top of the world rankings and their battle will be worth keeping an eye on this week ahead of the ATP Finals. Unfortunately for Adrian Mannarino, this will almost certainly, and quickly, end his Paris Masters campaign.
