- Carter will now be looking to progress to the semi-finals for the first time in his career after losing on the previous two occasions that he has made this stage.
- It will be tough going for Carter as he faces a man in John Higgins that he has only beaten on nine of their 30 encounters.
JOHN HIGGINS
- John Higgins proved far too good as he overcame Barry Hawkins in their first round clash with the Scot dropping just the one frame in that victory.
- Higgins failed to add to the 17 centuries that he has scored so far this season but was able to rack up another four breaks of 50 or more.
- If Higgins can come out on top of this clash with Ali Carter, he will equal his best performance in the competition in his last seven appearances.
THE PREDICTION
John Higgins easily saw off an out-of-sorts Barry Hawkins while Ali Carter was very good as he upset Mark Selby. Both men will be confident of their chances in this one but with neither managing to score big scores consistently this season, it should be a tight affair and is likely to last at least 10 frames.
