THE PREDICTION

Like a few teams in the division, Northampton have been awarded a default win and been forced to concede a Premiership match due to covid-19 cases in a matter of weeks and it is clear that the “elephant in the room” is actually the effect of coronavirus on the league table. The visitors have yet to play a competitive match in 2021, then, with their last match a 29-10 win over struggling Worcester on Boxing Day. Gloucester will have a chance when they host the Saints here but the hosts have been difficult to predict as they struggle for consistency. They are bottom of the Premiership despite beating the likes of Wasps and Ulster in league and cup and they can usually score well no matter the result. Given the unpredictable nature of the Premiership right now, the lack of match practice for Northampton could tell in this meeting and with a hefty score on the cards it could be Gloucester’s day here to edge a match that goes over 40 points.
