THE PREDICTION

Reigning Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs were shocked by Gloucester in their last league match before the European break to see the gap between themselves and Bristol at the top extended to 12 points with seven games to go. The Chiefs were knocked out of their other defending title by Pro14 champions Leinster last Saturday to make it three defeats form their last eight matches across all competitions and that is concerning form for a team that looked unstoppable last season. Travelling Wasps were knocked out of the Champions Cup in yet another agonisingly close defeat, this time 25-27 at home to Top 14 giants Clermont. Four of Wasps’ last five results have been settled by a margin of two points or fewer, and three of those defeats, so taking Exeter to cover -5 at home here looks a tougher prospect than at first glance.
